Zayda – The Impact of Choices we Make

GirlGuidesBallarat Zayda Youth of the Year e1520507928283Congratulations to local Girl Guide, Zayda Vandenberg for her recent achievements with the Lions Youth of the Year Program.

15 year old Zayda represented Loreto College and won her competition at club level, competing with other Ballarat students at the Buninyong Mt Helen Lions Club competition.

This win established her position as a competitor at the Zone level.  Zayda’s prepared speech focused on the “impact of choices we make”.  A perfect topic to compliment the 2018 Thinking Day theme of Connect-Grow-Impact that focused on the ways that individual Guides can bring positive change.

Program Aims

The Lions Youth of the Year Program is designed to foster, encourage and develop leadership qualities at an age where our youth are about to enter the field of higher education or employment. Students are encouraged to pay greater attention to the general qualities that are so vital for development into first class citizens.

The qualities sought are:

  • academic attainments
  • leadership
  • personality
  • sporting and/or cultural activities
  • public speaking – impromptu current affairs and prepared speech
  • good citizenship
