Construction Destruction 2024
This year, due to dangerous weather conditions, the 2024 Ballarat District Scout’s annual Construction Destruction event was postponed from it’s usual February date. Fortunately, the rescheduled activity took place on a sunny afternoon with lovely Autumn weather.
While the date change led to a smaller turnout compared to previous years, the result was a fun, friendly and enjoyable atmosphere between the Guides and Scouts. The 1st Sebastopol Guide Unit represented the Ballarat Guides, seizing the opportunity to engage in an outdoor activity.
Each Guide and Scout group constructed their own ballista using poles and ropes – a practical use for knotting skills practiced over the years.
Following the construction phase, the youth members engaged in friendly competition, launching water bombs from their ballistas. The Beaufort Scouts did really well with this challenge, landing waterbombs amongst the Guides on many occasions Not surprisingly, the Guides received the ‘Most Popular Target Award’.
The Guides also earned the ‘Best Construction Award’ for their construction skills. Their ballista was completed first, featuring neat and accurate knots. They also received the ‘Environment Award’ for picking up the most pieces of broken water balloons.
The Guides love participating in this event, and look forward to meeting up with the Scouts again next year.
