Guides Shine in Record Attempt

Twenty girl guides armed with sponges, buckets and plenty of elbow grease lined up at Repco Ballarat on Saturday to help attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the most cars washed in a day.
The soapy challenge, which involved Repco stores in 100 communities around Australia, aimed to break the previous record of 4344 cars washed within an eight-hour period.
In Ballarat, girl guides washed their way through more than 60 cars, while the results of the nationwide challenge will be tallied this week.
Event organiser Adam Holyoak said motorists were queued up to take part in the popular initiative, purchasing tickets at a bargain price of $5.
Proceeds from ticket sales were donated to Girl Guides Australia, which provides leadership and personal skills to girls and young women throughout Australia.
“Word of mouth has got out pretty fast,” he said.
“Everyone is happy to help out. All the girls are excited to wash the cars.”
The girls gave each vehicle a full wash and chamois, with their parents and Repco staff members on hand to help out on the day.
