World’s Greatest Shave at Guides

May 1, 2020

Angela Girl Guides BallaratI haven’t heard of any other Guide activity where the Guide Leader shaves her head – voluntarily.

This week, Angela Leeson participated in The World’s Greatest Shave event – one of Australia’s biggest fundraisers to assist the Leukaemia Foundation to raise funds for research.

Angela’s daughter (a 13 year old Girl Guide) cut off Angela’s four long plaits, then husband Terry used a number 3 razor to shave the remaining hair.

This all happened in front of a live Facebook Event for friends run concurrently with a Zoom session of Delacombe and Sebastopol Guides.  There was a little bit of squealing – but not from Angela (that was from the Guides and other Leaders providing virtual support). The Guides chose to wear crazy hair for the occasion.

Angela had hoped to raise $750 and was pleased to reach $1600. Her hair will also be donated to the cause.

Learn more about Angela’s fundraising for Leukaemia and the story of Girl Guide Jessica Harbridge who needed the Leukaemia Foundation in recent years.
