Science Week
August 20, 2023
National Science Week is held annually in August as a celebration of all things scientific and innovative. It is the perfect opportunity to encourage curiosity and explore the areas of science, technology and engineering.
Many of our Guide groups organised science-based activities.
The 4th Ballarat Guides investigated the physics behind the popping of popcorn, with research revealing that the historical origin of popcorn may be Peru dating back to 4700 BC. The girls also created individual obstacle courses for marbles, and made paper cup grabbers with the functionality to pick up pom poms.
11th Ballarat Guides, Ballarat Begonia Guides, Alfredton Guides, Delacombe Junior Guides and Sebastopol Guides all enjoyed constructing with Lego.
Sebastopol and Delacombe Junior Guides visited the Scienceworks Museum in Melbourne where the girls were introduced to a wide range of experiments, physical challenges, demonstrations, sensory encounters and interactive displays.
