Guides @ ICC T20 World Cup

March 11, 2020

On this International Women’s Day, Girl Guides from Ballarat joined other Victorian Guides at the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s T20 World Cup final between Australia and India.

The Women’s T20 World Cup is the biggest women’s sporting event ever held in Australia and was played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The event showcased female talent and achievement on the global stage like never before.  A record breaking crowd of 86,174 people attended, including many Girl Guides, the Girl Guides Australia Board and many of the Girl Guides Victoria Executive Team.

At 6 months pregnant, Katy Perry performed “Roar” and “Firework” to a packed house.

Una from 1st Sebastopol Guides wrote about the experience:

On the 8th of March the T20 woman’s cricket finals were on and it was also International Women’s Day. Katy Perry was singing at the pre-match before the big game between Australia and India.

The batting team for Australia was up first. We quickly got some sixes and a lot of fours. At the end of 20 overs we had a score of 184 runs – that’s hard to beat. Now it was India’s turn to bat. They started slow and got a couple of fours. By 15 overs India had got 9 wickets and if they got 10 wickets they would be out.

Just then, Australia gets the ball and hits the wickets.  Australia wins with 19.9 overs. They had won by 85 runs.

They said that there were 87000 people in the MCG.
