Service at Toy Library
September 4, 2017
Local Girl Guides have chosen to provide service to the Ballarat Toy Library.
Brianna, Kaitlyn and Ally spent two meetings with their unit of Guides checking the toys and puzzles to ensure they are complete, clean and functional. The girls really enjoyed helping and Ally has decided to return on the weekend to provide further hours and work towards her Service Flash.
Members of the 12th Ballarat (St Cuthberts) Guides assisted the Toy Library when it was first established in Ballarat forty years ago. At that time, the girls made a set of draw string bags (like dilly-bags) to hold the toys.
Ballarat Toy Library
The Ballarat Toy Library allows families to borrow toys on a regular basis. They have a wide range of quality toys, equipment, puzzles and games available to meet the ever-changing and growing needs of children at each stage of development.
Families have the opportunity to discover what toys their children most enjoy. It’s also a great place to meet other families in the community. Other benefits are:
- saving members money
- saving the need for storage space
- reducing the carbon footprint in homes
Donations
Donations of toys are always welcome. The toys don’t need to be new, but they do need to be in a condition that you would be happy to give to a friend.
Donations can be dropped off during sessions or collection can be arranged.
Donated toys should be:
- Well designed, constructed and safe
- Durable and robust
- Complete and in good condition
- Suitable for children from birth to 6 years old
- Easy to clean (not soft toys, dolls or teddies)
- Easily transported in a car
