Guides at the Library
May 23, 2024
The Delacombe Junior Girl Guides have enjoyed an educational visit to the Sebastopol Library as they work towards earning the Book Create-a-Challenge badge.
Ruth, an enthusiastic local librarian, introduced the girls to the layout of library, appropriately beginning with a tour of the children's book section. She discussed the different categories of books that could be found, including picture books and chapter books. Ruth explained the importance of library cards and demonstrated the process of checking out the books, as well as showing the noisy consequences of what happens when books are removed from the library without being checked out.
The Guides participated in several activities as badge challenges, such as a fiction book scavenger hunt, folding an origami bookmark and learning about the different parts of a book. The visit included ample time for the Guides to browse the library's collection and the girls explored the shelves and selected books of interest.
