Preparing for Japanese Girl Guides

July 29, 2017

Inagawa Girl Guides

Here in Ballarat we are awaiting the arrival of a contingent of Japanese Girl Guides.  “Troop 17 of Hyogo Council” will be visiting from Inagawa, Ballarat’s sister city. We last met up with this unit when they visited us in 2012.

The Japanese Guides, like Australian Guides, are all members of WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts). The girls and Leaders will be staying with local families for the week and visiting several Ballarat tourist attractions, as well as some activities with our Guides.

Some units have been working on Japanese themed activities, such as:

  • manga drawings
  • sumo wrestling
  • Japanese language skills
  • cherry blossom art
  • Japanese games

Our Leaders have been planning a special day where all Guides from Ballarat can spend some time with the Japanese Guides while they experience our Aussie bush.
