A Day with the Gnomes

A special event has been organised for our 5-7 year old Guides. The program has an environmental theme with a little bit of magic to spark the imagination.

When: Wednesday 11th July 2018

Where: Lingbogol (more details on your note)

Time: 9.00am - 4.00pm

Cost: $15.00 including morning and afternoon snacks. Please pay this to your Leader before the end of term.

Wear: Guide uniform, coat, hat/beanie, gumboots/waterproof shoes.

Bring:

  • packed lunch
  • drink bottle
  • carry bag big enough for lunch, drink bottle and goodies made to take home.

 

Registration

  • Complete the RSVP form by 29th June and return to your Leader
  • Provide information on food allergies

Small yoghurt containers will be needed for an activity so please collect and bring along that you may have.

Adult Leadership Training

Training for new Guide Leaders

When: Saturday 19 – Sunday 20 May
Where: Lingbogol Guide Campsite, Creswick
Who: Unit Leaders and Assistant Unit Leaders.

This 2 day training covers:

  • Delivering the Australian Guide Program
  • Being a Leader of a Unit
  • Being Safe
  • Managing a Unit

Air Activities Day

Outdoor Trefoil 3

Ballarat Guides have been given a special opportunity to participate in an activity to learn new skills.

OutdoorTrefoil3The Ballarat Aero Club are working with us to provide a session that covers the syllabus for the Air Activities component of the OUTDOORS TREFOIL  3 badge. This includes a flight in an aircraft.  What a great opportunity for our local girls.

  • For: Guides aged 14+ at the time of the activity
  • Where: Ballarat Airport, 4 Airport Road, Mitchell Park.

ANZAC Day Services 2018

Girl Guides attend various ANZAC Day services with their Guiding unit or family. Please wear full uniform where possible.

Ballarat Central

  • Meet between 10:00am and 10:15am at the RSL venue in Lyons Street, Ballarat.
  • 10:30am start.

Sebastopol

  • Meet at 8:45. Guides at the RSL Hall in Beverin Street and families at the Cenotaph in Albert Street
  • 9:00am start.

At Home with the Gnomes

A special weekend with Mother Gnome and her Friends.

This fun camp is designed for Guides in grades prep, 1 and 2. The program has an environmental theme with a little bit of magic to spark the imagination.

Limited to 18 girls who will enjoy a memorable weekend.

Cost: $70.00. This includes accommodation, food and many things to make and take home.

 

Applications

  • Final RSVP is Friday 3 May, however as there is a limit on the number of girls who can attend, applications will close when the camp is full.
  • Refer to your own Leader regarding the application process

At Home with the Gnomes Camps

These are special local camps for Guides in the Ballarat District who are either in prep, grade 1 or grade 2. Each magical camp is limited to 12 girls who will enjoy a memorable weekend.

Aussie Day in the Bush

In Ballarat we are lucky to receive a visit every 5 years from a Japanese Girl Guide unit.

“Troop 17 of Hyogo Council” will be visiting from Inagawa, Ballarat’s sister city. We last met up with this unit when they visited us in 2012. The girls love to experience our Australian culture and we are pleased to be able to spend a day with them in our Aussie Bush.

All Ballarat Guides are invited to come along and spend time with the Japanese Guides. The day will be filled with Australian activities.

When: Saturday, August 12th

Time:  1:00pm - 4:00pm (eat lunch at home before you come)

Where:  Grab the details from your Unit Leader

Cost:  $10

Wear:  Camp uniform (uniform polo shirt and jacket with warm pants). No badges or sashes.  It is winter, so coats and beanies may be required.

Bring:  Drink bottle of water and snack for afternoon tea.

RSVP:  Form and money to your Leader by August 4th.

The Japanese Guides, like Australian Guides, are all members of WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts). The girls and Leaders will be staying with local families for the week and visiting several Ballarat tourist attractions, as well as some activities with our Guides.

Ballarat Environment Day

A Day of fun activities exploring our flora and fauna.

March 18, 2017.  Lake Wendouree.

Girl Guides Victoria has teamed up with Fisheries Victoria, Parks Victoria and Catchment Management Authority to provide a day of fun filled activities.

Guides aged 5-17 will participate in four different sessions:

  • Learn to fish in the lake while understanding the impact of fish over population, fishing guidelines and being safe near the water.
  • Become a junior ranger discovering a bush supermarket and exploring the flora and fauna in the wetlands environment.
  • Be involved in the water watch session looking at water bugs and learning about water quality testing.
  • Understand the impact of camping and unit meetings on our environment and participate in activities from the 2017 EnviroGuide badge syllabus.

Join us for a school holiday activity that involves no TV and no devices. Just a fun time with Guiding friends learning some outdoor cooking skills and tasting the results.

Begonia Festival Parade

Keep your eyes out for the Girl Guides in the Ballarat Begonia Festival Parade.

We haven't been involved for a few years because we like to help out with activities in the gardens.

This year we are managing both tasks !!!

 

The parade starts at 11:00am

Guides need to be there earlier - your Leaders have all the details.

 

 

 

Boer War Service 2020

Girl Guides Victoria have been invited to participate in the march and attend a service at the Enternal Flame at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne.

The Boer War Day Service commemorates the 23,000 Australians that served. The particular focus this year is paying tribute to the Australians and New Zealanders who fought together in the ANZAC tradition.

The march will begin at the lower end of the Shrine Forecourt and will be led by the Creswick Light Horse, followed by:

  • the Tobruk Pipes and Drums
  • the Australian Great War Association in Boer War uniforms
  • banners and flags

A certificate will be awarded to every Guide who attends in uniform.  Guides must attend with a supervising adult. Family medals can be worn.

Please arrive early to register. You will be required to provide your name and group contact details to an official at the registration tent.  The Right Honorable Lord Baden-Powell of Gilwell and Honourable Wendy Baden-Powell will also be attending.

Scouts and Guides may be asked to help with minor jobs on the day.

Light refreshments will be provided after the service.

Bring Your Pets to Church

Blessing of the Animals

The Ballarat Central Uniting Church are inviting local Girl Guides to come along and join in with their annual "Blessing of the Animals" service.

And of course .... your pets are invited too.

This is a service aimed at families and pets.  All animals will receive a blessing.  Some may even join in the singing!

This is a special opportunity to give thanks for all animals, especially pets.

Wear – full uniform

Time – Service - 10am.  BBQ - 12pm

Pet & People Safety

  • All dogs must be on a leash
  • All cats and small animals should be in cages or other suitable containers
  • If your pet is too big or too small to transport to church, just take a photo along instead

At the end of the service the Youth Group will hold a Sausage Sizzle to raise funds to assist the Drought Relief programs.

Camp Connect & Canoeing

Camp Connect

This is the first opportunity for our Guides to camp together as the newly formed Central Highlands Region.

Guides of all ages are invited to attend "Camp Connect" and are encouraged to participate in the canoeing activity.

Canoeing at Creswick

Canoeing will form part of Camp Connect, but will also be available to Guides who just want to pop along for the canoeing activity during Saturday.

Camp Together: State Gathering 2021

Join Girl Guides aged from 5-105 from across Victoria at Camp Together! With a range of exciting activities for youth and adults, and training opportunities for our Volunteers – there’s something for everyone!

It’s been a long time since we have all been able to camp together… so let’s make it happen at Camp Together in the September school holidays! There will be plenty of activities for Girl Guides to choose from to be #EverythingSheWantsToBe; opportunities for adults to grow their leadership skills; and the State Award Ceremony on Sunday afternoon.

Transport
Buses will be organised to take all participants to and from Camp Together from Region hubs. Buses will depart from hubs before 8am. Youth members can select to arrive in private cars. Adult members who wish to drive can email stategathering@guidesvic.org.au to request a car park. Please note that not all requests can be accommodated, as car parking is limited.

Combined unit camp

Delacombe & Sebastopol Girl Guides

Annual combined unit camp for Delacombe Junior Girl Guides and 1st Sebastopol Guides. This year our camp will be held at Lingbogol in Creswick and we will all be sleeping indoors.
