Ballarat Guides earn BP Award

2016 State BP Award Certificate Presentation

On Saturday,  May 28, eight Guides from Ballarat District travelled to Yarraville to attend the annual State BP Award Certificate Presentation.

Over the last 12 months, 55 girls across the state have completed the syllabus  for the BP Award. More than 30 girls attended the function to be presented with certificates by State Commissioner, Lynne Emblin, in the presence of the Victorian State Team, their Leaders and their families.

The BP Award is named after the founder of Guiding, Robert Baden-Powell and is one of the peak achievement awards. The Guides work on the syllabus over a period of several years, completing challenges for various components:

• Promise and Law
• Guiding traditions
• Service
• Patrol system
• Outdoors
• Leadership

The presentation function included guest speakers Laurel Fry-McBean and Maddison Buzza who spoke on their personal Guiding experiences and the opportunities offered to them after completing their Queens Guide Award. Their words were inspiring and very encouraging for the BP awardees who can now begin their own journey towards achieving the Queens Guide Award.
