Girl Guide Promise
I promise that I will do my best:
-
to be true to myself and develop my beliefs
-
to serve my community and Australia
-
and live by the Guide Law
The review that shaped the current Promise and Law was guided by input from girls, volunteers, and members across Australia. It ensures that the commitment of Guides remains relevant and meaningful to girls and women living in 21st-century Australia, while staying true to the enduring values at the heart of Guiding.
Understanding the Guide Promise
Each part of the Guide Promise reflects the core values of Guiding and provides a strong foundation for girls and women to grow, contribute, and thrive. The Promise is more than just words — it’s a commitment to living with purpose, kindness, and integrity.
To be true to myself and develop my beliefs
Guiding encourages self-reflection and personal growth. It gives girls and women the chance to explore their values, make thoughtful decisions, form meaningful relationships, and develop a strong sense of identity. With a deeper understanding of themselves, Guides are empowered to express their beliefs through actions and live with purpose and integrity.
To serve my community and Australia
Helping others is a core value in Guiding. Service can happen in many ways — at home, in the local community, or even on a national or global scale. Guides are encouraged to be active citizens, show respect for Australia’s heritage and future, acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land, and make a positive difference in the world around them.
And live by the Guide Law
Living by the Guide Law means striving to make the best use of our physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual gifts. Guides are supported to recognise their strengths, grow their abilities, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. The Law is a guide to making ethical choices and becoming the best version of yourself.
Blast from the Past
Prior to July 5th 2012, the Guide Promise was:
I promise that I will do my best:
- to do my duty to God
- to serve the Queen and my country;
- to help other people;
and to keep the Guide Law.
The updated Promise better reflects the diverse beliefs and values of today’s Guides, while staying true to the spirit of service, self-development, and community.
