Adult Good Service Awards
October 15, 2023
Members of Girl Guides Ballarat extend huge congratulations to some of our long-time volunteer Leaders who have been presented with prestigious awards. The criteria for the “Adult Good Service Awards” is defined by Girl Guides Australia, with the purpose of recognising and valuing the voluntary contributions of adult members to Guiding.
Congratulations to recipients Rosemary Garth, Dawn Fischer, Sandra Ballard and Margaret Littlehales.
The awards were presented at a special reunion event where past Guides and Leaders had gathered to acknowledge the incredible milestone of 100 years of Guiding in Ballarat.
The badges and certificates were presented by Girl Guides Victoria State Commissioner Linda Kors, having travelled from Melbourne to join in the celebrations.
Ballarat District Leader, Karen Chatto, spoke of the significance of the contribution these volunteers have made to local Guiding.
For over 100 years, hundreds of local women have volunteered their time to encourage thousands of girls across Ballarat to learn new skills, form life-lasting friendships, experience adventure (whether that be going on their first night camping or travelling by boat to an international Jamboree) and contribute to our community. We thank these women for their contribution to Guiding but also for their commitment to develop the girls of Ballarat.
Guiding continues to be relevant today – providing a safe space for girls and young women to create new friendships, develop an understanding of others, explore new interests and develop new skills, gain personal leadership skills, to actively participate in the Ballarat community, all whilst striving to “do their best”.
Today, we honour four women who have made outstanding contributions to Guiding in our local community, our Region and the state of Victoria. Our sincere thanks to them for their contributions and ongoing commitment to the empowerment of girls.
