Guiding in the Dark

Guides Glowing in Pyjamas
On a crisp winter’s evening, the Delacombe Junior Guides stayed warm indoors with a fun-filled night of “Pyjamas in the Dark.”
The girls — along with their volunteer Leaders — arrived dressed for comfort and fun, wearing a mix of cosy pyjamas, oodies, dressing gowns, and slippers. To add a splash of colourful bling, each girl wore glow-stick bracelets on their wrists.
The evening began with their usual Guide Ring opening ceremony — but this time, it took place illuminated only by a circle of tealight candles. With the lights remaining off, the girls rotated through a series of themed activities:
🔦 Shadow Puppets – Each patrol brought The Gruffalo story to life with a shadow-puppet performance to accompany the story as it was read aloud.
🔦 Animal Hand Shadows – Using a torch and their hands, the girls created a variety of animal silhouettes on the wall.
🔦 Mystery Bed-Sock Challenge – Relying on their sense of touch, the Guides reached into a fluffy bed-sock to identify a collection of small, curious items.
🔦 Glow Ball Challenge – the girls worked together to try to keep the glowing balls in the air.
The night was a lot of fun.
