Thinking Day 2023
February 22, 2023
World Thinking Day
Our Ballarat Girl Guides recently combined with girls from across the Central Highlands Region to celebrate World Thinking Day together at a big event with more than 80 Guides and Leaders.
Throughout the afternoon, the girls participated in a variety of themed activities:
- played a “Settlers for Peace game”
- used their senses to connect to the world
- played an observation game with nature
- decorated cards with flowers and greetings to be distributed at the upcoming WAGGGS World Conference
The three-year Thinking Day theme of “Our World, Our Future” started in 2022, inspired by the concerns of Guides from 100 countries who indicated that their main worry is the environment.
- 2022: Our World, Our Equal Future
- 2023: Our World, Our Peaceful Future
- 2024: Our World, Our Thriving Future
This year’s focus is “Peaceful Future” and the Guides were encouraged to think about how they can help create a peaceful and secure future for girls everywhere.
And of course, no birthday celebration is complete without a cake. Mia had the honour of blowing out the candle on the birthday cake after everyone sang Happy Birthday to Robert and Olave Baden-Powell, the founders of the Girl Guides and Girl Scouts movement, as well as Mia. Her birthday is the closest to February 22nd among all the girls present.
We donated to the World Thinking Day Fund that enables the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) to provides global programs to support girls and young women in other member countries.
World Thinking Day is a shared experience with Guides across the world together, all celebrating their shared values and inspiring positive change.
