August Action Service
August 5, 2018
Service is a fundamental part of the Australian Guiding Program. The annual August Action community service challenge gives our girls the opportunity to assist a variety of worthy causes.
In 2018, the August Action theme is focused on helping food banks provide support to those in need .
There are many different organisations in Ballarat that run food banks, each providing food relief to many local families. You may like to donate a non-perishable food item to Uniting Care Breezeway, the Soup Bus or Anglicare.
Ballarat Refugees
Ballarat is home to many refugee families. A network of volunteer-run organisations assist these families on their arrival:

Food items are provided to refugees via a special food bank. We could really help out by donating food items that can be distributed. Take your donation to your Guide Leader and she will pass it on to where it needs to go.
Donations of any non-perishable food items would be appreciated. This is a list of suggested items that would be of most benefit at the moment:
- Rice (preferably basmati)
- Olive oil
- Vegetable oil
- Chic peas – either dried or canned
- Beans – dried
- Lentils – red or black
- Long life milk
- Tomato paste
- Tinned tomatoes
- Tea bags
- Muesli bars etc (for kids school lunches)
And also common household consumables:
- Tissues
- Toilet paper
- Dish washing detergent
- Washing powder
- Any other cleaning products
If you’re not involved in Guiding but would still like to donate a food item, please contact Margaret on 0407501724
