Thinking Day 2016 @ Ballarat

lwthinkingdayThe Ballarat District Guides will be celebrating the birthdays of our founders with a swim, picnic tea, campfire and Thinking Day service.

Thinking Day is always a great opportunity to gather with Guides from other units in our district and to think about Guides in other countries. It is especially relevant this year as the theme is CONNECT.  The Eureka units have organised some special activities for the night.

Thinking Day 2018

District Thinking Day Activity

Thinking Day is a celebration of the birth dates of our founders, Lord and Lady Baden-Powell.

This year, all Guides in the Ballarat District will join together for a special night of activities.  The Thinking Day program will be based on the WAGGGS Impact Challenge with fun activities to complete challenges for the special Thinking Day badge.

On February 22, nearly 80 Girl Guides in Ballarat joined together in the rain to celebrate World Thinking Day with a fun night of activities focusing on the impact that Guiding has on the lives of members and their communities.

Thinking Day 2020

District Thinking Day Activity

Thinking Day is a celebration of the birth dates of our founders, Lord and Lady Baden-Powell.

This year, all Guides in the Ballarat District will join together for a special night of activities related to the WAGGGS World Centres.

Bring a picnic tea and meet at the rotunda near Piper's Restaurant in Wendouree Parade (opposite the Botancial Gardens). Families welcome to join us.

Activities will start at 6:00pm

 

 

Cost: $2 per Guide

Wear: Guide uniform

Bring: backpack/bag with drink bottle of water, Activity Permission form (provided by your Leader), byo picnic tea

 

Toy Story 4 Movie Fundraiser

Delacombe and Sebastopol Girl Guides invite all Girl Guides and their friends to attend a special screening of Toy Story 4 during the school holidays.

Toy Story 4

The movie follows on from Toy Story 3 where Sheriff Woody, Buzz Lightyear and their toy friends are given to Bonnie by Andy.

They are introduced to Forky (a hand-made spork) and head off on a road trip that turns out to be quite adventurous.

Trivia Night

11th Ballarat Guides and Choc Chip Ranger Guides have organised a fundraising Trivia Night.

Grab a group of friends and come along for a fun night.

World of Work STEM Expo

Explore STEM career pathways

The World of Work (WOW) STEM Expo is a free event being held in Geelong for all female high school and tertiary students and will help girls make informed decisions about their individual career pathways.

This is a fantastic opportunity to explore STEM career pathways, emerging digital technologies, and 21st century employability skills. There will be interactive presentations, keynote speakers, and STEM activations in robotics and virtual reality

The girls will:

  • engage with industry leaders
  • uncover job opportunities of tomorrow
  • and set goals for their future career

This event is open to any girls studying at high school or tertiary institutes such as university and TAFE. Guides, their parents, and Guiding volunteers are all invited to attend.

The expo will feature global speakers from Envato, Culture Amp, Twitter, Airbnb, Atlassian, Foundation for Young Australians, PwC, and UniSuper, plus industry experts and career mentors to help girls explore the new world of work.

Xtreme Bounce Activity

Delacombe Junior Guides & 1st Sebastopol Guides

Celebrating the 36th birthday of the Delacombe Junior Guides.

Note change of time to accommodate both units -  6:00-7:30

  • a Youth Activity Permission forms needs to be completed and handed in
  • a separate Liability Waiver form is required for the Xtreme Bounce centre. Please read this waiver and print out the last page.  It must be completed and supplied to the centre (or fill one out when you get there)
  • Cost is $8 per girl, subsidised by our Guide unit. (This would normally be $18.50 inc socks)
  • Please bring a pair of jumping socks if you already have them from this or another venue
  • Bring a named drink bottle of water.

Young Driver Program

Car Maintenance Education

Ballarat Car Sales have offered to provide a special education program for our older Girl Guides who are new drivers or have limited experience with car maintenance.

The hands-on session will be run by their expert mechanic in their workshop and will cover such things as

  • changing a tyre
  • checking the oil and water
  • good maintenance techniques

Attendance offered to Guides 17+ and limited to 10 people.  Online registration required.

A Day with the Gnomes

A special event has been organised for our 5-7 year old Guides. The program has an environmental theme with a little bit of magic to spark the imagination.

When: Wednesday 11th July 2018

Where: Lingbogol (more details on your note)

Time: 9.00am - 4.00pm

Cost: $15.00 including morning and afternoon snacks. Please pay this to your Leader before the end of term.

Wear: Guide uniform, coat, hat/beanie, gumboots/waterproof shoes.

Bring:

  • packed lunch
  • drink bottle
  • carry bag big enough for lunch, drink bottle and goodies made to take home.

 

Registration

  • Complete the RSVP form by 29th June and return to your Leader
  • Provide information on food allergies

Small yoghurt containers will be needed for an activity so please collect and bring along that you may have.

Adult Leadership Training

Training for new Guide Leaders

When: Saturday 19 – Sunday 20 May
Where: Lingbogol Guide Campsite, Creswick
Who: Unit Leaders and Assistant Unit Leaders.

This 2 day training covers:

  • Delivering the Australian Guide Program
  • Being a Leader of a Unit
  • Being Safe
  • Managing a Unit

Air Activities Day

Outdoor Trefoil 3

Ballarat Guides have been given a special opportunity to participate in an activity to learn new skills.

OutdoorTrefoil3The Ballarat Aero Club are working with us to provide a session that covers the syllabus for the Air Activities component of the OUTDOORS TREFOIL  3 badge. This includes a flight in an aircraft.  What a great opportunity for our local girls.

  • For: Guides aged 14+ at the time of the activity
  • Where: Ballarat Airport, 4 Airport Road, Mitchell Park.

  • A session to cover everything except the flying component
  • Visit to hangar

ANZAC Day Services 2018

Girl Guides attend various ANZAC Day services with their Guiding unit or family. Please wear full uniform where possible.

Ballarat Central

  • Meet between 10:00am and 10:15am at the RSL venue in Lyons Street, Ballarat.
  • 10:30am start.

Sebastopol

  • Meet at 8:45. Guides at the RSL Hall in Beverin Street and families at the Cenotaph in Albert Street
  • 9:00am start.

At Home with the Gnomes

A special weekend with Mother Gnome and her Friends.

This fun camp is designed for Guides in grades prep, 1 and 2. The program has an environmental theme with a little bit of magic to spark the imagination.

Limited to 18 girls who will enjoy a memorable weekend.

Cost: $70.00. This includes accommodation, food and many things to make and take home.

 

Applications

  • Final RSVP is Friday 3 May, however as there is a limit on the number of girls who can attend, applications will close when the camp is full.
  • Refer to your own Leader regarding the application process

At Home with the Gnomes Camps

These are special local camps for Guides in the Ballarat District who are either in prep, grade 1 or grade 2. Each magical camp is limited to 12 girls who will enjoy a memorable weekend.

Aussie Day in the Bush

In Ballarat we are lucky to receive a visit every 5 years from a Japanese Girl Guide unit.

“Troop 17 of Hyogo Council” will be visiting from Inagawa, Ballarat’s sister city. We last met up with this unit when they visited us in 2012. The girls love to experience our Australian culture and we are pleased to be able to spend a day with them in our Aussie Bush.

All Ballarat Guides are invited to come along and spend time with the Japanese Guides. The day will be filled with Australian activities.

When: Saturday, August 12th

Time:  1:00pm - 4:00pm (eat lunch at home before you come)

Where:  Grab the details from your Unit Leader

Cost:  $10

Wear:  Camp uniform (uniform polo shirt and jacket with warm pants). No badges or sashes.  It is winter, so coats and beanies may be required.

Bring:  Drink bottle of water and snack for afternoon tea.

RSVP:  Form and money to your Leader by August 4th.

The Japanese Guides, like Australian Guides, are all members of WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts). The girls and Leaders will be staying with local families for the week and visiting several Ballarat tourist attractions, as well as some activities with our Guides.
