  • Trace your hand on a piece of paper and on each finger write or draw a person who you love and who you can lean on if you ever ‘need a hand’.
  • Trace your other hand on a piece of paper and on each finger write or draw something you can do to ‘lend a hand’ to someone.
  • Learn to finger spell your name using the Auslan alphabet
  • Make some finger puppets or hand puppets and do a performance.
  • Find out how many bones there are in an adult hand (resources)
  • Learn a magic trick that involves ‘sleight of hand’.
  • Know the alphabet in Semaphore and be able to count to 20.
  • Find a partner and take turns being each others arms and feeding and giving drinks to each other.
  • Make a craft completely from scratch.
  • Participate in improvisation with a partner where one person sits on a chair with their arms behind their back, and the other girl stands behind acting as the arms of the girl on the chair.

  • Try eating a bowl of icecream without using your hands.
  • Learn how to finger knit and make a strip at least 20 cms long (resources)
    Give and receive a manicure.
  • Learn a selection of new knots.
  • Learn about the left handshake and explain it to your unit.
  • Learn a range of campfire actions songs, such as ‘Edelweiss’ and ‘Love Grows Under’.
  • Teach your unit a new action song suitable for campfire or unit meetings.
  • Create a ‘feely box’ activity and play it with your unit.
  • Spend some time trying to achieve daily tasks without the use of your dominant hand.

Handywoman

  • Thoroughly clean and repaint with at least two coats, a chair, table, door, window-frame etc.
  • Clean your paint brushes.
  • In your own home, know how to turn off at the main, the gas, electricity and water supplies.
  • Know how to replace a washer on a tap
  • Repair a broken article using a hammer and nails, screwdriver and screws, or glue.
