Girls Rock 2016

Grampian Region Girl Guide LeadersGirl Guide Leaders from across Victoria gathered at the Melbourne Town Hall for the annual Girls Rock conference.  This special activity is for adult Guiding members and focuses on Empowering our Leaders for the future.

Leaders from the Ballarat District joined those from the Grampians Region and headed east on several early morning V-Line trains to meet up with 330 Leaders.

2016 Rosie Batty HomeThe key note speaker for the day was Rosie Batty, the 2015 Australian of the Year and the Pride of Australia’s National Courage Medal recipient.  Rosie is a family violence campaigner and leader in the crusade against domestic violence.  She spoke of her story and about:

  • adapting
  • embracing life
  • having core values and purpose
  • keeping your integrity

These are also the values that we support as Girl Guides.

GirlsRockStoriesLeaders attended several workshops throughout the day, attended the State Council meeting, and were provided with news and updates from Guides Victoria.

The Social Media Team (Narelle Tomlinson and Emily Handley) launched a new website of Guiding Stories. This site is an ongoing project displaying inspirational stories, shared by girls and women, of their Victorian Guiding experience.

As usual, Ballarat Guide Leaders enjoyed the day out and the opportunity for socialising that is provided at such activities.

We look forward the new Guiding year.
